Fr. Marc-Philippe Vincent, Priest-in-Charge

Fr. Marc-Philippe Vincent was born in Montreal and grew up on the South Shore. While a seminarian in the Roman Catholic diocese of Saint-Jean-Longueuil, he obtained a bachelor’s degree in theology (B.Th.) from Université de Montréal followed by a master’s in theology (M.A.) from the same university. He completed a certificate in pedagogy (C.Ens.) and then a diploma of superior studies (DESS) in school administration. He started his PhD in Education.

Fr. Vincent became an Anglican in 1986 when he joined the Cathedral community. He became a candidate to holy Orders in the Anglican Church, and did his training at the Cathedral and at Saint Columba’s in N.D.G. before being ordained a deacon on Trinity Sunday, 26th May, 1991, and a priest on Saint Luke’s day, 18th October, 1991.

He was appointed as non-stipendiary deacon-in-charge, and after that as priest-in-charge, of the small French community of Saint-Rédempteur which first met in the diocesan chapel before being transferred to Saint Luke’s chapel at The Montreal Diocesan Theological College and now to the Cathedral.

After his tenure at Saint-Rédempteur, Fr. Vincent started worshipping at Saint John the Evangelist (1994), before he was asked to join as Honorary Assistant. He was twice on the clerical team that ensured the interim after the departures of Frs. John-Paul Westin and Paul Farthing.

Between 2010 and 2020, he was appointed Priest-In-Charge of the communities of Saint James the Apostle, Stanbridge East, Saint John the Evangelist, Stanbury, Saint James the Less, Pigeon Hill, and Bishop Stewart’s Memorial Church of the Holy Trinity, Frelighsburg.

After his tenure there, Fr. Vincent came back as Assistant Priest at Saint John the Evangelist.

Fr. Vincent also held a secular job. He was a high school teacher for 11 years before becoming vice-principal for 3 years. He was a primary school and high school principal for 15 years and worked at the school board as project manager and school support service manager for 6 years. He retired from his secular job in 2022.

Fr. Vincent has also been an active member of the Military and Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem (OSL) since 2008. He is a former Commander of the Montreal Commandery and the Grand Priory in Canada’s Scrivener.

Fr. Vincent was appointed Priest-In-Charge of the Church of Saint John the Evangelist by Bishop Mary Irwin-Gibson on 7th April, 2024.
